The Topsail High School Scholarship
Anyone who knew Alex will attest to her compassionate spirit and willingness to help those who needed her most. She understood that many of her peers in high school simply do not have the resources required to fulfill their dreams of attending college. The Alex Hartner Memorial Scholarship fund will help cover costs associated with all aspects of attending college—from studying and taking SATs, to completing and paying for the challenging applications process, and finally to funding the tuition, books, and miscellaneous costs associated with going to college. The selection process is headed by Topsail Guidance Counselor Ms. Sallie Reamer (Ms. Reamer spent many patient hours with Alex helping her apply to college—Alex often expressed her amazement at Ms. Reamer’s generosity in sharing her time and expertise with her.) Ms. Reamer will be soliciting input from the teachers to select the deserving student(s) who have the strong desire to further their education, but who are struggling to find the financial means to do so. Alex would be so proud that she is leaving a legacy of helping these young adults proceed on their path of changing the world. We believe that recipients of this scholarship will be well on their way of taking their tremendous potential to even greater heights. Alex will be cheering them on.

The Saint Andrews Presbyterian Collage (SAPC) Scholarship
Alex wrote in her SAPC application that her “Equestrian Scholarship Objective” was “ To take my passion for all things horses to the next level by being an integral part of one of the best equestrian teams at the collegiate level.” Like many young girls, horses were Alex’s life. They were among her best friends and she spent a major part of her childhood experiencing all facets of the horse world—from grooming, tacking, trailering, training, flat work, aides, jumping, dressage, cross country, western gaming, competing, and horse care. Alex became the confident person that she was because of her equestrian avocation. When it came time to choose a college, Alex of course chose a school that had one of the best equestrian teams in the country. To her, higher education included higher horse education. And SAPC proved to be the perfect choice for her—Alex loved SAPC; she loved her suitemates; she loved the team; she loved her classes; and she loved her college life. When asked how she liked college, she would always reply, “I’m ecstatic.” We are confident that Alex would be thrilled that other young equestrians could pursue their horse dreams because they were afforded an equestrian scholarship to this amazing institution.
